Anthony Piscitelli, Research Associate with the The Centre for the Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence, has been named Researcher of the Year by the Wilfrid Laurier University Graduate Students' Association. Anthony is a Doctoral Candidate studying Geography and Environmental Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. He was nominated for this award based upon his Masters of Political Science thesis, which uses survey data and individual interviews, to show that disorder in neighbourhoods with high social capital can be used to stimulate civic engagement and to prevent crime. His Masters research also served as the basis for a report published by the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council, presentations to local city councils, an article published in Municipal World Magazine and a journal article, which has been submitted for consideration.  Details of the award can be found here: http://www.wlugsa.ca/researchers-of-laurier/
