Dawson, co-authors compare responses to violence in Canada and China in recent articles

June 20, 2013

Dr. Myrna Dawson and several Canadian colleagues compare criminal justice and community responses to violence against women in Canada and China in two recent articles published in international journals. Focusing on five key areas, the first article which recently appeared in the Asia Pacific Journal of Social Work and Development compares legal response in the two countries to better understand the pathways and challenges in developing appropriate initiatives to address violence against women in different cultural and economic contexts. The second article recently published in the Hong Kong Journal of Social Work focuses specifically on community responses to violence against women in China, largely led by ‘residents’ committees, using a feminist perspective to examine perceptions of domestic violence in the local context.
