SOAN PhD candidate Anna Johnson and CSSLRV director and Sociology professor Dr. Myrna Dawson recently published a study titled, “Child homicide in Ontario, Canada: Comparing criminal justice outcomes” in The International Journal of Law, Crime and Justice. Their research compared the criminal justice outcomes of child homicide perpetrators by degree of intimacy. By examining the criminal justice outcomes of familial perpetrators, non-familial perpetrators, and perpetrators with no prior relationship with the victim, they found that familial perpetrators were less likely to be convicted of murder. They explore how stereotypes about violence and intimacy may impact court outcomes.
