CSSLRV Director Myrna Dawson is one of several international scholars to contribute to The Handbook of Homicide, an edited collection just released by Wiley Handbooks in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Edited by F. Brookman, E.R. Maguire, and M. Maguire, the book includes 38 chapters on various topics related to homicide reflecting the latest scholarship on the nature, causes, and patterns of homicide, as well as policies and practices for its investigation and prevention. The collection represents the first internationally-focused volume highlighting the latest research in the field. Dawson’s chapter called ‘Homicide in Canada’ examines homicide in the Canadian context examining the legal framework surrounding homicide-related offences, data courses, historical and contemporary trends, regional and urban/rural variations in homicide rates, sociodemographic characteristics of victims and perpetrators, situational characteristics of killings, theoretical understandings of why homicide occurs and criminal justice responses. Other countries or world regions focused upon are Europe, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Britain, United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and the Caribbean, Russia, China, India and South Africa.
