Canada Research Chair in Public Policy in Criminal Justice, Dr. Myrna Dawson, will deliver a keynote address this week at Griffiths University in Brisbane, Queensland. The conference, hosted by Griffiths University’s Violence Research and Prevention Program, is entitled ‘Homicide: Precursors and Prevention’ and was organized due to the increasing need to examine and understand the current trends in homicide, why homicides are occurring, and the opportunities for prevention. The two-day conference examines various forms of homicide including infanticide, intimate partner homicide, and youth homicide, exploring programs and opportunities for prevention. Dawson will discuss 10 years of recommendations for change that have been generated by the Ontario Domestic Violence Death Review Committee, Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, on which she sits as a member.
